The Toronto Raptors (39-39) will be looking for a little revenge when they host the New Jersey Nets (32-46) tonight. Not that the Raptors need any incentive to beat their Atlantic Division rivals, but with a Raptor win tonight, Vince Carter and the Nets will be officially eliminated from playoff contention. 15 losses in the last 21 game is not the kind of streak the Raptors want to be on heading into the playoffs. In what started as a promising season, things have fallen apart rapidly. At a time when confidence should be high, a solid rotation is set, people know their roles, the offense is hitting on all cylinders, you are able to make a solid stop or two on the defensive end, and the team is generally getting along, things couldn’t look more bleak for the Raps. Man, Anthony Parker was good. Really good. Over four seasons at Bradley, Parker averaged 15 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per night while kicking in close to a steal and a half and two thirds of a block per contest, too. He shot the ball in a fairly efficient manner, had 3-point range, and got to the line at a rate of over 5 times per game, a great number for the college basketball world. He also won the 1995 MVP award for the Missouri Valley Conference. The only real knock against Parker when he entered the NBA Draft in 1997 was that he might have been better served coming out the year before, when he put up college-career highs of 18.9-6.5-3.5 on 47.2% shooting and 42.2% from long range. His junior year was his best, but his staggering numbers and consistency across four seasons was what made him a reliable draft pick, either as a late lottery pick or a late-1st round steal. The Boo birds will be out in full force tonight at the ACC when the Toronto Raptors (27-23) host the New Jersey Nets (23-29) in the last game before the NBA All-star break. As every Raptor fan knows, there is a strong rivalry between these two clubs. The Nets knocked off the Raptors in the first round of the playoffs last year and it’s never pretty when “Toronto’s Public Enemy #1″ Vince Carter comes to town. Continue Reading

In the off-season the Atlantic Division was the busiest Division in the NBA for free agents signings and trades. Boston added all-stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen; New York adds Zack Randolph; Philadelphia started the season without Allen Iverson for the first time in eleven years; New Jersey added Canadian Jamaal Magloire to play alongside the Kidd, Carter and Jefferson; Toronto said goodbye to fan favorite Morris Peterson and said hello to Jason Kapono, Carlos Delfino and Jamario Moon. Here is a quick report card on the Atlantic Division teams. Continue Reading

I want to start by apologizing to the 12 or so people who read my blog for being so quiet this off-season. Aside from the rumors and the trades, nothing interests me about it. With little on the line, pre-season game’s lack focus and intensity, and really, I can’t stomach watching Graham, Baston and Moon playing 20+ minutes of WNBA caliber basketball. I am too emotionally invested in this team to watch half ass ball…my nerves are strictly reserved for regular season/playoffs. Continue Reading

The Toronto Raptors off-season may not have been as exciting as the Knicks, Nets or Celtics, but their acquisitions will create battles for playing time which will benefit the team. In my opinion Chris Bosh and Anthony Parker are the only guarantees for starting spots this season. Continue Reading
