Raptors beat the Bucks 111-93 [39-39]- April 9, 2008

Posted on 09 April 2008 by Raps Fan

I must say, I was actually hype to watch this game. Even though the win was pretty much guaranteed, given that Bosh called out his team and told them he doesn’t trust, and the Raptors had a couple good practices in a row…whatever that means. I imagine it means Joey Graham got a couple monstrous dunks, Baston broke a sweat and Bargnani hit 32 in a row because he was bending his knees.

IBM Winning Strategies:

  1. Battle Inside
  2. Redd Alert
  3. Better 1st, easier 4th.

Yea…they did all of that. The third strategy not so much, but they only surrendered 46 in those frames, and didn’t hae to exert themselves very much (other than Bosh who logged 40 minutes).

The game started out pretty damn ugly. The Raptors and Bucks traded brick after brick, and built a new practice facility for Cabbie to practice his half-court hailmary’s. Then things started to pick up, incredibly actually.

Bosh’s rant wasn’t a hollow one this time (this game anyways). Bosh was a man possessed, running around like a mad man on offense and defense. He was contesting shots, rotating on defense, grabbing boards, taking it to the rack, hitting free throws, and lunging at loose balls on the floor. Wow, I must say he really impressed me tonight. Haven’t seen this from the man in a while.

Villanueva was the only Buck to show up in the 1st quarter, keeping them in the game with 14pts and 4 rebs (to put this in perspective, the Bucks had 18 points in the quarter). He stepped it up even more in the 2nd, , raining three after three after jumper after running floater down on the Raptors, the man was in the zone. Smitch called a timeout two possessions too late, but was able to cool CV off for the rest of the half.

It was a scrappy back and forth game in the 2nd, and he Raptors took a 2 point lead into the half. I was worried, I wont lie. The Raptors were showing grit, there is no questions, but how long was this going to last? It last, they won this game in the third with some great ball movement, some timely stops, and they hit their shots. Let’s be honest, the Raptors haven’t shot this well in a month. I Take it.

They matched the Bucks intensity in the 4th, and didn’t let the lead drop below 10 until running away with a couple minutes left. Primoz even put down a dunk. In fact, the only Raptor not to score was Joey Graham, but at least he contributed with an assist.

I really don’t have too much to say about this game. The Raptors shot the lights out, kept the battle of the boards even, shared the ball and only had 6 turnovers. Pretty much a perfect team. At this point though, against a lesser team (much less), it still holds some value for me. They have been playing like the special olympics team recently, and in all honesty, you can’t sleep on the Bucks. They have solid talent (and the best names in the NBA), and have already blow the Raptors out this season.

A couple final thoughts:

Bosh’s Half Time Chat with Leo:
And I quote Bosh: “you come in here and feel like it’s a funeral, the crowd needs to pick it up, we need to pick it up.” I have been thinking about this. The Raptors haven’t given any of us anything to cheer for in over a month, I thought it a bit too much to say that given the Raptors only had a 2 point lead over a garbage team at the half. Am I alone in this?

Leo Rautins:
I can’t stand him. Seriously, he shouldn’t be given a mic to speak into. The crap that comes out of his mouth….

So he went off on CV because CV was happy and laughing and prancing when he was hot in the 1st half, but didn’t have the same attitude when he wasn’t doing the same in the second half. Seriously Leo, you want the guy to smile and dance around when his team is down 12? What the f*ck kind of consistency is that? If the guy was prancing and smiling with his team town, he would have got tea bagged by Ruffin.

Also, as soon as Leo said that, CV started to go off, creating his own shots, and knocking him down. I just wish he would get a real coaching gig somewhere, and get off TV. That is the only Hope…

I told you, Villanueva has a game (if in his mood).. anyway are the raptors already locked in their current position?

the raps are a game behind 6th place 76ers, 2 games behind 5th place Wizards and 4 games behind the Cavs.
Raptors remaining games vs NJ, @ DET, vs MIA, @ CHI
76ers remaining games vs IND, @ WAS, vs CLE, @ CHA
Wizards remainding games @ DET, vs PHI, vs IND, @ ORL

Yep Leo and Chuck need to go…..there are many good hoops broadcasters out there (even Canadian ones).

This only shows Canadian sports networks don’t care about hoops.

Then again, I have seen Joe Bowen…..

  4. Arsenalist Says:

I don’t know if this win was guaranteed, the Bucks were technically in this one with 4 minutes to go, they just didn’t have the firepower (injuries) to make a legit comeback. The Raps got some nice steals in the second/third which helped with the defense.

I hope Leo and Chuck get involved in some sort of sex scandal so they’re forced to quit because you know they’ll never be fired..

  5. Raps Fan Says:

uhm…the game wasn’t guaranteed, but the bucks don’t have the type of players (mobile/athletic/talented 2’s and 3’s) to really give the raptors a problem. when they didn’t go to bogut, i knew their chances were slim to none.

well, chuck is here for life. leo, he might be able to scam a coaching job somewhere, or hopefully the national team picks up, and becomes a full time job (i don’t understand why it isn’t right now, they suck, maybe more work is needed).

i could deal with chuck if leo wasn’t around. move leo to pre/post game panel, and give armstrong the starting gig. that is the best case scenario.

can’t wait till sunday’s game on abc…thank god for national coverage…hopefully we don’t get the local feed, that would kill me.

WAS will finish no worse than 2-2.
PHI will finish no worse than 2-2.

TOR will finish 2-2 … which would then mean a 1st Round Playoff Match-up vs DET.

  7. Raps Fan Says:

i assume you figure the chicago game to be a loss? i think the raptors could finish 3-1, but 2-2 sounds about right…i just can’t stomach losing to the bulls on the final game of the year.

  9. Arsenalist Says:

I was surprised Bogut almost ended up with a double-double, the guy looked very shaky out there. My favorite play of the game was when Bargnani tried to take him off the dribble and the slow elephant-like Bogut was able to get a crafty steal on him.

  10. Raps Fan Says:

i was amazed redd had 17. the raptors did a pretty decent job of keeping the ball out of his hands. and contesting his shots.

i’m pretty sure my dog could steal the ball from bargnani.

  11. khandor Says:

In the aftermath of the W vs Milwaukee …

“We have arguably a more talented team than last year, we have arguably under-utilized some of that talent to some extent this year at various points throughout the year,” the team’s president and general manager said yesterday.

These are ominous words for Sam Mitchell to hear, 2 plus years into Colangelo’s tenure in Toronto.

  12. masterjuddi Says:

I could see the raps finishing 4-0, but most likely 3-1. the Pistons are resting their starters, but they could come back at the raps in full force because of the playoff match up and the previous loss. they should look at the nets games as a must win, the heat are a Dleague team and the Bulls can really stink up the place, but have atheltic big men that should give the raps trouble.
they hold the tie breakers against the 76ers so if they finish 3-1 and the 76ers finish 2-2 then the raps should meet the Magic…best case scenario. I feel the sixers would give the pistons some trouble, not upset them trouble but trouble

  13. Raps Fan Says:

3-1 is the likely finish, but we have been talking likely monthly totals all season, and been disappointed repeatedly. hopefully they can build on the bucks game, and take it one game at a time. who knows…
