Rasho wins the tip, putting into Calderon’s lap who skips the ball up-court to Parker who fakes the three from the corner, getting Carmelo in the air, and puts the ball on the court and drives to the rack. He pulls up and lobs the ball to a cutting Moon who puts down a massive dunk in Kenyon Martins eye, and 1 baby.
Iverson brings the ball up court, putting it between his legs on each step; he gets to the top of the key, crosses over, but is met by a double team (Calderon runs over), he skips to an open Carter in the corner, but Moon gets a hand in the way, and tips it out of bounds. Carmelo inbounds to Iverson who curls off the high screen, and pops at the elbow. The ball hits the front of the rim into the mix, Bargnani has Martin pinned to his hip, giving Parker space to rebound the ball.
On the next possession, JC and RN play Stockton and Malone at arc, ending with Rasho threading a backdoor pass to Parker on the baseline for a one-handed facial in Camby’s grill.
Unfortunately for me, I was jacked up on Chewy Chips Ahoy, I saw the exact opposite happen on every play, and in some instances, I made my own reality (see Tom Cruise).
IBM Winning Strategies:
- Game Management
- Perimeter Defense
- Functional Offense
Zero, zero and zero. Uhm…I don’t know what to say…
Ok, I know what to say:
Defense:
Raptors can’t play defense. Parker plays pretty decent man defense, Bosh and Moon block a couple shots a game, but that doesn’t amount to a defensive strategy. In fact, that and 2 quarters adds up to 50 cents.
Rebounding:
Raptors can’t rebound. Bosh grabs 8.4 per game, and it is all downhill from there.
Interior Scoring:
Raptors can’t score in the paint. This group of pansies BC has assembled likes to stand around and wait to shoot the rock.
Jose Calderon:
I figured out why you are playing like shit, it is a two pronged issue: i) You are pissed off how the powers to be have handled the TJ situation ii) you are hoping the Lakers trade Coby Karl and a late 2nd rounder in the 2017 draft for your rights.
TJ Ford:
Willie still loves you. I may not agree with the tactics, but I understand why…I think. You are ready to play, I get it. That dunk attempt on Kobe was sick. The slack you have been getting, was deserved until the Warriors game. 28 points and 8 assists is a pretty damn good game for a point guard in the NBA. You took some bad shots, more than you should have, but no one else was even remotely interested in anything.
Depth:
There is none. This team is filled to the brim with soft players who wouldn’t get more than 12-15 minutes on ANY team in the NBA.
Chris Bosh:
Get your ass back on the court. Kobe is playing with a busted shoulder and mashed up pinky. Iverson is perpetually banged up. Pride man…show us you have some.
Sam Mitchell:
Your strategy consists of making shots:
Reporter: “Sam, why did you win this game?”
Smitch: “We made our shots.”
Reporter: “Sam, why did you lose this game?”
Smitch: “We miss some shots.”

dude! my hats off to you for watching the whole game! I got as far as the Nuggets posting 20 on the Raps … then decided that my blood pressure was best served by watching anything else on.
wow. that was BAD!
Btw, was it just me or was everything Smitch did reactionary (I’m just reaching for straws running out of people to blame) …
GAH, to be a sports fans in TO *shakes head*

I guess we can start calling them the Washington Generals. I’m convinced one of two things are going on
a - they don’t want to play for Sam
b - they don’t want to play for Lucas
Before it was who do you trade. Now it’s who do keep. I would sign and trade most of the team. Shut down Chris for the year and start over.
The bottom line is these guy’s really do not want to play in the NBA. I would book them all in the cheapest hotel I could find, work them as hard as I was allowed in practice (they don’t work during the game) and then figure out how to have them fly coach. The savings should then be given back to the fans.
Should be interesting when they play Miami. Since both teams are trying to lose I would give the edge to Miami.

Yep if you watched that entire game you win the X-factor award.
Thank God the Heat are coming up.
good plan, don’t let them ruin your team as well.

“Shut down Bosh for the year and start over”? Seriously? Have you forgotten that we’re still a playoff-bound team? That everyone (including the fans) benefits from a playoff appearance? We’re not Minnesota dude, no matter how bad we looked last night.
That’s just silly talk.

i really could have used a hug after that game, denver ran a train on the raptors. i didnt watch the whole game, i caught an episode of family guy.
smitch has been reactionary since day 1, nothing changed yesterday.
i have to agree with Dinosty. We can at least get a playoff round out of these guys. but i will start calling them the generals, bosh needs to get back asap, pansy…

Dinostsy,
Silly talk is completely right.
John,
Those are tactics that (may) ‘work’ in another environment, but … trying that with NBA players … will get you fired, straight-up, lick-a-dee-split.
Top notch coaching … at this level of competition … in the NBA, involves so much more (let me repeat that, for those that might have missed it the 1st time around), so very much more, than what most ‘average’ fan(atic)s ever realize … during games, practices AND off the court entirely.
In no way am I a Sam Mitchell ‘apologist’ … but, from observing him closely, right now, you can tell that his hands are being tied, tight behind his back, by someone else in the Raptors’ hierarchy.
As a former NBA player, who played the way that Sam did … what happened on the court last night … is totally unacceptable … and, yet, he did nothing about it? Hmmmmmm …
Methinks that … Something is (seriously) Rotten, in the State of Denmark.

Sorry for all the silly talk but the team is not playing very well. I am concerned that Bosh comes back to early and makes things worse.
Sam does what the orgaization tells him to. A question for the more learned
Have you noticed the Raptor’s tailspin started with the hiring of Lucas??
A matter of timing ??
Thanks again for the responses.

lucas huh? do you want to elaborate bro?

John Lucas - Basketball Development Consultant
Was hired for the rest of the season. Basically to work with TJ but I believe the man has NBA head coaching experience.
So maybe the extra set of eyes and opinion is not helping the situation??
Of course for all I know the man may be back in Texas.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
no, he was there last night. he had that blue suit on sitting behind mitchell. i’m pretty sure he used to coach the rockets. you think he is throwing a wrench into the works?
March 15th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
John,
That’s a sensible organizational hiring question you just asked.
* Jim Todd chose to leave for what reason, exactly?
* Dave Hopla chose to leave for what reason, exactly?
* Mike Evans was brought on board this season for what purpose, exactly?
* Jay Triano has survived through how many different coaching/management regimes for what reason, exactly?
* Maurizio Gherardini was hired (June 2006) as VP & Assistant GM for what reason, exactly?
* Marc Eversley was hired (June 2006) as Director of Basketball Operations for what reason, exactly?
* Masai Ujiri was hired (July 2007) as the Director of Global Scouting for what reason, exactly?
* John Lucas was hired (this season) as a Basketball Consultant for what reason, exactly?
… as, personally, I don’t have the answers to these questions.

PS. When 1 player on a ‘pro’ sports team gets special treatment from management (e.g. Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, etc.) it rarely goes over well with his teammates.

you’re bang on. i really thought it was interesting when todd for the bucks. someone made a point of it at the time, but i don’t remember who/when.
what shocked me, was letting hopla, the best shooting coach in the world, walk. you would think being a shooting team, a guy like that would be useful to keep around.

Wow, Mitch after is really all about shots…

Words … alone … cannot do justice to the depths to which the team sunk recently, compared to a point earlier in the season.
Only a vid clip, or two, can do that.
