This game wiped me out man. With the spectre of losing another game to the Sonics weighing on me heavily, I started to assess my involvement with this team. Seriously. I may sound melodramatic, but I am really emotionally involved with the Raptors. Sounds pathetic and juvenile, but when I get behind something, I really get behind it. Anyways, I digress, the Raptors pulled out a win, and I’m not forced to make any decisions, lol.
Seriously though, what the hell man? The Raptors came out flat, disinterested, disenchanted, disconnected, what have you…they are not playing with any sense of urgency after dropping games to the Knicks, Pacers, Bobcats and the Wizards. By my count, that is 10 games they should have won, but didn’t this season. Which leads one to think if they are underachieving…I say no, they are doing what they should be. Losing games you should have won is still a loss, which means this team is a 6 game over .500 team, plain and simple, no better or worse.
Anyways, I have to keep this short, my GF is on me to spend quality time with her…the Raptors didn’t win this game, the Sonics lost it. If they protected the ball (22 turnovers), they would have won this game. In tennis, you have a stat known as unforced turnovers. This speaks to committing a turnover without any pressure form the opposing player (in our case, team). The Sonics committed 22 of these, leading to 30+ points off the turnover by the Raptors. If they committed their season average of 16, they would have won this game, I have no doubt in the mind.
The Raptors still suck, but I take this rim. That half-time interview with TJ was really interesting, expect a podcast or an article (depending on whether I shave - don’t want to be looking all Hezbollah on video) tomorrow on him (TJ). Here’s my wrap-up:
1st Quarter:
- Do I even have to say it? I wont say it, but I guarantee a win…I wont say guarantee, but I expect one.
- The Raptors haven’t won a tip off since Bosh went down.

- Moon tips in Rasho’s missed hook shot off of the pick and roll with JC.
- Rasho gets in the lane and sticks a half-hook.
- JC drops a dime to an open Rasho for a layup, he should be dunking those. I actually can’t remember the last time he dunked the ball.
- Moon takes the swing pass from Parker, steps in and hits the jumper.
- Moon doesn’t stop Watson’s penetration, hoping for a block, and sends him to the line, Earl hits both.
- Moon doesn’t make that extra swing pass to Parker, but hits the jumper.
- Watson gets deep into the zone, and drops off to Wilcox for a layup + 1.
- Parker turns the ball over, which leads to a Durant alley-oop on the break.
- Parker stops the bleeding and nails a jumper inside the arc in the corner.
- Petro scores easily in the corner off the drop step hook shot.
- Rasho draws a foul under the rim, he hits both.

- Kapono finally hits a three off of TJ’s penetration.
- Raptors don’t get back on D, and Collison answers with a dunk.
- Collison hits a turn around jumper over TJ.
- Delfino nails a trey.
- I dig the in-game interview with Colangelo. BC was very disappointed with the last 4 losses! lol…
- Delfino curls around a screen, and TJ hits him with a pass for an easy layup. Soncis turn the ball over.
- Kapono hits another trey off of Humphries offensive board.
- Ridnour takes it coast to coast to answer with a layup.
- Kapono drops a dime to an open Hump for a layup.

- Wilkens answers again with a J in the corner.
- Bargnani takes it to the rack and hits a layup.
- TJ gets out on the break, and Hump tips in his missed layup.
- TJ runs down an offensive board, but misses the layup…
- Hump steals the ball from Wilcox, then Ford turns it over, then Wilcox dunks on the break.
- Delfino emphatically dunks with his Dr. J impression in Petro’s eye.
- Calderon back in, and Watson is penetrating at will again.
- Seattle is getting all the foul calls, this is ridiculous.
- Calderon sticks a trey in the corner from Delfino’s skip pass.
- Collison drops in an easy layup.
- JC steals the ball, and gets fouled on the break.
- Parker penetrates and drops off to Hump for a couple pump fakes, and a layup.
- Parker steals the ball, then throws it away in transition with Watson laying it up in transition.
- Hump takes it baseline and lays it up in Wilcox’s eye.
- Watson abuses Calderon on the dribble-drive, again.
- Hump grabs another offensive board, and draws the foul, he misses both from the line.

3rd Quarter:
- Rasho opens things up with a hook in the paint.
- Watson opens things up with a turnover.
- Calderon steals the ball and gets it to a slashing Bargnani who draws the foul, he hits both from the stripe.
- Parker gets to the rack after getting Durant off his feet, lays it up and gives the Raps a 2 point lead. Sonics timeout.
- Raptors force Sonics to miss shot out of timeout with some good defense.
- Bargnani misses two treys in a row.
- Bargs takes the hand off from Rasho, and hits the jumper from the corner.
- Wilcox puts it down in Rasho’s mouth, again.
- Parker dribbles around a high screen and sticks a jumper.
- Green drops a nice pass to Wilcox who dunks it again, easily and open.
- Bargs hit a jumper inside the arc in the corner.
- Collision answers with one at the top of the key.
- Parker drops a sick pass to Rasho who hits the layup + 1.
- Jose gets inside the arc, and sticks a jumper.
- Wow, Moon gives up an open jumper and swings it to Parker for an open trey. All off Calderons penetration.
- Watson lobs an alley-oop who hits the layup + 1.
- Calderon nails a jumper inside the arc in the corner.
- Watson walks into the lane and hits another layup.
- Parker creates his own shot and nails a trey in the corner.
- Moon blocks Durants shot with the shot clock expiring.
- Moon hits a fade-away in the paint.
- Moon forces a jumper…
- Durant forces a trey on the next possession.

We’re done with the “TJ Ford Grace Period” right?
He’s trying my patience every time he’s on the floor.

Hezbollah?? hahaa…that’s great.
You could hear a pin drop in the place today. It was like a tomb. I could honestly hear people coughing in the upper level.
I actually thought they started the game pretty well. Heads were up, they were talking, etc. Then, as to be expected lately, it went in the shitter until Humph made an appearance.
I never thought I’d ever ever ever ever ever say this: but where would we be without Rasho?

I’ll say my piece, and let you guys debate this thought…. I have twisted view of this CB4 injury. I thought alot of players really needed to begin opening up and doing things out of their comfort zone. Till this point, when everything was running through Chris, that wasn’t happening. Which personally frustrated me…. All the weakness were hidden, e.g. rebounding, taking it to the basket, defence, etc….
Now that Chris is gone, these are being exposed. This issue has to be dealt with head on. Unfortantley, the best way to learn is on your own skin, and although the losses are hard to take, and I have to endure hearing everybody say blow the team up, but I think twisted as this sounds, this is a necessary step so the team can take it to the next level.
Andrea is now having more opportunities to develop his driving game, figure out his offensive game, and most importantly not take three stupid fouls in the first quarter and sit down, which he hasn’t been doing. I see Parker and Delfino really stepping up, taking it to the basket, I even saw Delfino do a ridiculous dunk today.
Gone are the days when everybody relies on Chris to grab rebounds, and cover up for the weak defence. Everybody is contributing. I now understand why Chris was always tired, he might have been doing everything on the court….
In short, this team needed to go to the next level, and the absence of Chris forced them to address their weakness. They are making the playoffs, and it’s my opinion they will be better off from this experience. Especially when teams will be focusing in on Chris and other players need to step it up….

Ron G - I like your theory about players needing this time to develop, both in this instance and as an overarching theory.
However, I think in this particular case, it has gone wrong. What one would desire from this scenario is players to find skills outside of their comfort zone (e.g. Rasho becoming a monster again), but some Raptors (Delfino, Ford, Moon) have failed to do so, instead showing that maybe their comfort zone is their upside.
It’s a good thing to find out now rather than once we’ve committed to all of these pieces, so I’m cool with stumbling blocks. Remember, two years ago this franchise was in despair. We’ve come a long way, and BC has a long-term plan, I’m sure. Long term, this stretch may benefit us by showing BC exactly what we have in each player.

Oh, and is it just me, or is Andrea the most frustrating player to watch develop? Bosh was slow-and-steady increases, most other rookies improve year by year, but Andrea seems to vary wildly in his desire, skills, and output. It’s kind of amusing, since I’m confident he’ll be great long term, but for now itz bizarre to see a player drive the bucket for a sick 2-and-1, then be hesitant to drive for the next week.

The way they started this game kinda killed my enthusiasm for the afternoon. No desire for revenge or any indication that this was a must-have game. If it weren’t for Seattle turnovers, this one was a L for sure.
Even though this team is winning, I really don’t enjoy watching them. Read what you want into that statement.

ron: what games were you watching? with bosh in the lineup, rebounding, taking it to the basket and defense were front and center! have actually read of my posts bro? lol. all i have been yelling about all year were these exact things. granted with bosh out of the lineup, they have been accentuated.
i agree that bosh has been doing lots out there on the court, which is why he has been so tired. i just hope all these extra minutes people are getting will be useful in the playoffs.
blake: at least we saw progress in bosh’s development. it wasn’t that slow though, but he has much easier to watch than bargnani.
arse: i don’t enjoy watching them either, but just like a battered wife, i can’t leave these sons-a-bitches.

Ugly win, but a win regardless. 4-6 isnt bad at all without Bosh, regardless of the teams they played against.
Parker continues to play well and help me with my fantasy league; Rasho looks good and should make Sam rethink his starting rotation when Bosh is back; Bargs was 5-21 from the field, which is terrible, but i dont mind so much from a young guy trying to find his game; Delfino and Kapono combined for 25 points off the bench which is a must for a raptors Victory.
this 5 game road trip is going to be tough for you Rapsfan. the Lakers, Warriors, Nuggets, Kings and Jazz are all good teams. I have a bad feeling about each game if Bosh isnt back. maybe you should take the week off and plan soem quality time with the GF…haha

Raps Fan > so are you taking the GF shopping? dinner? LOL … I didn’t watch the game (went stroller & crib hunting) *cue ominous baby wails*, but thanks for the PbP. It’s nuts but it seems that their M.O. over the past (is it 10?) games has been to start really slow.
Blake > yup, it’s just you (lol, j/k), he is VERY frustrating to watch because of the “1st pick”, had we grabbed him lower, we’d be more lenient.
Smoke > nope. I doubt we’ll ever be done the TJ grace period.
LOL, people thought I was crazy when I posted that Rasho could be Sabonis-like (cripes, do people even remember Sabonis?) w/ his passing–given the chance. Now we’ll see if Smitch tries to take MORE of that approach w/ Rasho…

spending quality time consists of hanging out and talking about feelings…i know…

Raps Fan > lol, you can always ask her to take you to a game, to spend quality time (didn’t work w/ my wife, but, you never know) … :p j/k
