Raptors beat the Heat 108-83 [33-27] - March 5, 2008

Posted on 05 March 2008 by Raps Fan

The Raptors finally beat a shitty team. I got nervous when Chuck said “they couldn’t possibly lose this lead.” I really don’t know why people rant and rave over Riley, his genius, his detailed approach, bla bla bla. If you can’t win a championship with Shaq, Wade backed up by Haslem, Mourning, Payton, Williams and Walker, then you shouldn’t be allowed to coach, period. He does nothing with a less talented team. The Heat team isn’t that bad. I mean, they aren’t good, but they are better than 11 wins. At the end of the day, you have Wade and Marion, shouldn’t be last in the East…that’s all I’m saying.

Ok, the Raptors…they beat the worst team in the league, please forgive me if I’m not over ecstatic. Don’t get me wrong, I take this win, but if the lost…bad things I would have wrote padua. Not surprisingly, they shot 55% from the field, dropped 27 dimes and committed only 7 turnovers. My points of interest:

Shut down Wade/Marion: For me, this was the key to the game. Parker and Moon did a masterful job of shutting them down. They took the ball out of their hands and forced the supporting cast to make shots, and they didn’t.

Bench Play: With the starters utterly useless, it was up tot he Miami bench to step up, and they answered the call. They outscored Toronto’s bench 55-45.

Calderon: Is back. He weathered a few bag games, and whatever it was that ailed him, was a non-factor tonight. Hopefully tonight was the start of another streak of great solid play.

Moon: I have been really hard on Moon the last few weeks, rightfully so I might add. I really thought he was going to have his hands full with Marion, but to his credit, not only did he shut Marion down (aside from Marion grabbing 14 boards, but you wont stop the guy), but he had one of his best 3 games of the season, check his line: 14pts, 9rebs, 4stls, 3blks. Solid night, I will overlook the bad jumpers you take if you put up that kind of effort man.

Parker: Easily my favourite Raptor. He has come out the last few games and set an early tone with his shooting. Fortunately, the Raptors took advantage today, and continued the pounding on the Heat.

Substitutions: Much better today than the last 4 games. No small ball..thank G*d. Primoz even saw the court in the 2nd. Joey could have used more time, but whatever, I will take it.

Soft Squad: Bargnani gets elbowed, body checked in mid-air, smashes his head on the floor, and…no Raptor does anything about it. Again. Pretty much ruined my night. The Raptors need Ron Artest ASAP. I just want some sort of defensive posturing. Yell at the guy, push him, walk past him and dip your shoulder into him, trash talk him on the court…anything. Not only did not answer the call, Humphries and Delfino were smiling and cracking jokes on the bench. Pussies…

Check the wrap-up:

  • Moon catches a pass outside the arc, takes a dribble in and sticks it.
  • Moon then strips the ball from Marion.
  • Moon bricks a shot with the shot clock expiring, but hustles back down the court and almost steals the ball from Marion.
  • Bargnani pump fakes and drives to the basket, gets mugged and smashes his head against the floor. Once again, no one steps up to defend him…pussies.
  • He makes both free-throws and heads to the change room - Humphries checks in.
  • Wade gets to the rim with a sick spin move and draws the foul, he hits 1 of 2.
  • Rasho catches the ball on the baseline, and sticks the J.
  • Rasho hits another shot from the exact same spot.

  • Moon hits a reverse layup under the basket.
  • Rasho tips in Humphries forced missed short-jumper.
  • Parker nails a trey off of Calderon’s pass.
  • Chuck may have jinxed Raptors.
  • Rasho hits another shot from another assist by Calderon.
  • Parker drops a pass to Moon in the paint who hits the layup + 1 (he misses the free throw).

  • Yea…I’m done taking notes…this game is over.

If you caught Riley’s presser after the game, you’d know why people like him. I would LOVE to hear Sam or Bryan give that type of speech when we are in the midst of our bad streaks.

I’m with you on Jerksky. As bad as it sounds as a Raptors supporter, I was kind of hoping to have Miami come back just to hear Leo jump on Chuck. It would have been classic.

I would have re-upped my season tickets for next year if somebody knocked a Heat player on his ass. But, like you say, we are still pussies and I’m still on the fence about missing only the second Raptor home game in my life.

Come on, how many times are we going to let players get away with this stuff? Where is Charles Oakley? How about…Chris Richard? I don’t know what the solution is. Maybe Joey Dorsey falls to 50th overall for us in the 2nd round.

Otherwise, a much needed thrashing to hopefully right the ship.

If anyone is going to smack someone on their ass it’s going to be Primoz. that dude cracks me up. He’s big, loves to talk trash and tries to use up all his fouls. Smitch has to think about giving this guy more minutes. he hussles and finishes around the basket. he’s kind of like Rasho with edge.
I knew the Heat were bad, but wow do they suck! Wade leads the league in TO and they arent cheesy ones but terrible passes. the guy is a superstar but man, protect the ball.

  5. Raps Fan Says:

he has the ball in his hand so much, turnovers are inevitable, but yea, some of those were really bad!

  6. Arsenalist Says:

Good win but it’s against Miami who don’t give a shit. Riley was very upset after the game. I think we’re seeing how mediocre Marion really is and how he’s a product of the Phoenix system more than a great player.

Have you noticed every time Chuck brings out that stupid Salami and Cheese, the opposing team goes on a mini-run or gets a big play right after.

I wish he would stop that nonsense.

dude…i don’t know how much longer i can stand listening to him. i am really considering getting league pass so i can get an alternate feed/commentators. i wouldn’t say marion is mediocre, but he is definitely a product of the phoenix system. i assume next season will be the measuring stick of how good/bad he is.

RapsFan, as someone who has to stream most games because I live in a door room with no cable, I highly recommend sticking with Chuck and Leo. They may not be the best, but there are teams out there with uninformed announcers or even more biased ones. At least Chuck and Leo know the players on opposing teams. In my opinion, they’ll do for now, but I’d love to see Sherman get a shot at it. If you remember back to when Chuck had a virus a few years ago, Sherman performed admirably in the role.

Raps Fan > lol, Blake is right dude. It’s sometimes painful to watch/hear a “local” NBA broadcast (local to the US of A), because some announcers don’t even know Calderon is Europe (Spain is not Mexico), or, that Argentina is in South America :) … I kid you not (think NHL 20 years back)

  10. Raps Fan Says:

you guys are right…i wasn’t talking about making a full change…just a change from time to time. i get sick of hearing those guys from time to time.

  11. SiC Says:

Raps Fan > oh man. I know. Chuck doin his bit during the 3rd was annoying. On the BRIGHT side (even though is still grey out), Leo & Chuck aren’t really geared towards “us”. They are more for the casual “fans” :) Btw, is the radio broadcast (FAN??) any good? Maybe listen to the game on the radio while watching the telly on mute? (I watch on mute most days and “try” to do my own PBP which I suck at, how do you write/type yours down?)

  12. Raps Fan Says:

there is a lag between tv/radio feed. arse posted a link to synchronize the feeds, but it was too much work for me, so i didn’t bother.

i literally sit down with my laptop and pop off a line on plays of importance. i tell you, it sucks the fun out of the sometimes. i just want to lounge on the couch with a bag of chips and watch the game. but i write my pbp for you guys. hopefully people actually read them, lol.
