Clearly RaptorsTalk.com is not the spot to go to for breaking news, AltRaps.com broke the story before anyone else. The Raptors send Juan Dixon to the Pistons for Primo Brezec. Another Slovenian (Rasho) center who may not get much more than the 1.7 minutes he averaged in Detroit. In all fairness to Primo, he was playing behind some solid forwards (Wallace, McDyess, Maxiel). I am really interested to see how this pans out for the Raptors. Always good to trade small unused guy for a big unused guy. I would rather have Hermann given the choice, hopefully Colangelo didn’t have that choice, or I would be pissed.

This has shades of the way we got Dixon in the first place last year.
A guy we were barely using for another guy that we may or may not use.

Big (contract) Ben to Cleveland? SWEET! I wonder who shows up? The Big Ben who had Sheed, Dyess … et. al.? or the guy that ran out Skiles and bitched @ a rook for calling him out? It would be interesting to see if LBJ can keep him in line.

I like this trade for the Raps. Brezec is a decent big man that hasnt seen much of the floor the past few seasons. When he was starting in Charlotte he was averaging over 13 ppg and 7.4 rpg. maybe he’ll be rejuvenated with a few extra mintues in Toronto.
I was reading rumours that BC was trying to get Pietrus from the Warriors for Dixon and Graham, but couldnt pull the trigger. Pietrus would be a nice fit, but isnt what the raps need. By adding Primoz the bench has a little more size and hopefully rebounding.

only if he gets some minutes. hopefully mitchell likes this guy, otherwise he will get comfortable beside maceo at the end of the bench.

I’m hoping it was GS that backed out of the Pietrus from for Dixon/Graham trade and not BC.
The Brezec trade is inconsequential, we may as well have not done anything. Brezec is behind Rasho, Bargnani and Hump in the depth chart. I doubt he’ll see much playing time. Some shit I hear is that he’d be ideal in a Cleveland series but somehow I have trouble believing that he can neutralize someone like Ben Wallace or Sideshow Bob.

how much was there to that pietrus deal really, i want to know. i don’t think colangelo would have backed out from that one: trading two guys who don’t play for a guy who could start for this team…makes no sense to me.
raptors best bet for getting out of the 1st round is to grab 3rd seed, and hope washington gets the 6th seed. not an ideal first round opponent, but i don’t want any part of the cavs or howard come playoff time.

this deadline was a snoozer. seeing as realgm was down in the afternoon, i was expecting a major shakeup, but nope. pietrus would’ve been nice for sure. i don’t know how i really feel about this trade since i haven’t seen too much of brezec. i was hoping (in the case that we did land a big man) we’d land a big, big man… great rebounder, shot blocker apparently that’s not really the case with brezec. aww well. I really hope Kapono gets going in the 2nd half of the season and maybe a little more from Joey.

straight from ESPN:
“The Euraptors were crestfallen when they acquired Dixon at the deadline last year and found out he was American. Exchanging him for Brezec fixes that nagging problem.
Also, Brezec is huge, and Toronto is desperate for size at the moment. But he’s been horrid in his limited appearances the past two seasons. Personally, I’d rather have the guy who can play a little. Grade: C+”

Completely random coincidence; as RapsFan and Arse know I fubared my ankle last week and today was my scheduled surgery date to insert a metal plate and screws and such.
So, guess who was wandering down the halls of Sunnybrook rambling on his hands-free with his pipsqueak Slovenian homeboy in order to get his incoming Raptors physical? Yup, none other than the big štruklji himself (štruklji = a savory cheese strudel).
So as we waited, I ask Primoz if he knows how to rebound… just kidding, I do welcome him to the Raps, to which he replied that it is great to be here, the Raptors have a good team, and he was wondering, since it’s so cold and shitty outside, where he could get some good downhome žganci (žganci = buckwheat dumplings in soup). Before I could respond I was taken into the OR.
My conclusion: The man likes to eat, he’s really fricking tall (my being in a wheelchair didn’t help that perspective), and he will fit in with the “nice guy” nature of the team, since he didn’t have to take a break from his call with his mistress in Ljubljana to chat with me for 10 seconds. I’d also be surprised if he’s on the bench tonight in NYC unless Tannenbaum flew him over in his private jet. Now where’s my Percocet….

i’ve never had slovenian food, how is it? how was the surgery bro?
February 22nd, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I don’t know much about Slovenia RapsFan (ergo, I had to look up those food names), but my girlfriend’s family is Ukrainian so the food types seem kinda similar.
The surgery went as good as it could have been, I guess; I now have on one of those sexy black aircasts that the athletes wear but will still have to keep off it for the next month or so and the staples will be coming off in a couple of weeks.
Oh well, on to win my roto fantasy team and keep posting on Raptors blogs while getting paid by short-term disability. Trying to make the best of it….

Still no rebounding interior defender…Primo is decent, but the last thing we need is another 7-foot Euro softie…
I’m happy to see Dixon go as he was a useless malcontent…

i can only hope there are things in the work in the off season that require these types of maneuvers that get this team the help it needs.
