Raptors beat Knicks 99-90 [19-17] - January 11, 2008

What a boring game. I put down my notes halfway through the 3rd because there was no chance the Knick’s were going to come back and take it, I would have bet my left nut on it. I don’t even know what to say, the game sucked the life out of me. Ruined my night. I am really glad the Raptors won, because if we lost to the Knick’s, if we ever lose to the Knick’s this season, the shit storm I will raise will be bad.

A couple things struck me during the game. Isiah is a pretty bad coach. It isn’t really new news, but I always thought he was better with his track record in Indiana and all. He did play matchups at all. Randolph, Curry and Lee should have given Bosh and company fits on defense, but they didn’t. They didn’t even play with each other that often. This game is proof of what happens when Bosh decides to attack the basket. He was untouchable, and actually got his jumper falling too with all the space he created for himself. We all can only hope he continues this type of play for the rest of…his career!

The game wasn’t as close as the score showed, the Knicks were never in this one, never. Anyways, forgive the game notes, I got super board halfway through the 3rd, and stopped taking them:

1st Quarter:

  • Bargnani is going to have his hands full covering Curry, dude is a beast.
  • Knick’s really suck, they don’t look like they want to be playing.
  • Moon starting strong, rebounding, defense and knocking down his jumpers…welcome to MSG.
  • Bargnani picks up 2 quick fouls covering Curry, can’t really blame him…gets the yank.
  • Bosh misses a finger roll, should have dunked it on Richardson…gotta be more aggressive man.
  • Parker continues his solid shooting from the perimeter of late.
  • Knicks suck…
  • On a positive note for the Knick’s, Isiah has a really solid suit on.
  • Calderon attacking Knick’s defense, these guys can’t play defense.
  • Bosh should strictly be driving, the Knick’s interior defense is worse than the Raptors.
  • Bosh airball wakes up the Knick’s (team and crowd) - quick Smitch TO
  • Moon buries deep jumper.
  • Bosh just punishing the Knick’s, my lord do they suck.

2nd Quarter:

  • Balkman is killing the Raptors on the offensive boards.
  • Krispy Kreme Martin finally checks in and drains a foul line jumper.
  • Martin steals the ball from Marubury, with Moon converting a 3 point play to finish the break.
  • I want David Lee in a Raptors uniform.
  • Graham wins the jump ball tip from Lee
  • Randolph is a black hole, no pun intended. Dude doesn’t pass at all.
  • Bosh checks in, and continues to abuse the Knick’s front court.
  • Marbury jacks a 3, and misses everything but his pride.
  • Crawford is sick, he is single handedly keeping the Knicks in the game.
  • Bosh needs to stop passing the ball to Humphries in the lane. Hump does nothing with it.
  • Bosh misses dunk on alley-ooop. On the bright side, it was a well executed play out of a time out.
  • Marbury decides to wake up, and is attacking the Raptors defense.
  • Knicks are hanging around, what the hell?
  • Bargnani penetration ends with Calderon draining an open trey.
  • Crawford answers with a trey of his own.
  • Bosh attacking the rim.
  • Calderon finds a wide open Bosh for an open dunk.
  • Crawford is a certified Raptor killer, kid is sick.

3rd Quarter:

  • Randolph starts 3rd on the bench, come to think of it, he has spent most of the game on the bench.
  • Knicks start the 3rd with a 24 second shot clock violation, man they suck.
  • Curry bails out Bargnani with a foul behind the backboard.
  • Bosh continues to take it to the rack aggressively, really nice to see.
  • Bargnani nails a deep three in Curries eye.
  • Moon follows up with a trey of his own. Seems like everytime I scream for him not to shoot, he hits his shots.
  • Knicks complete two straight back door plays. Those frustrate the hell out of me. Why don’t the Raptors execute those plays?
  • Nate Robinson is fearless.
  • Knicks suck…

Sorry, that’s all I have. Like I said, the game was pretty boring. The frustrating thing is that the Knicks shot over 50% from the field, and had more assists than the Raptors. What is even more upsetting, is that Bosh is impossible to handle when he decides to drive to the bucket. His jumpers are ok, but very few people can hang with him off the dribble.

Mitchell also boggles my mind. In games we are losing, and need Bosh and Calderon to play, they are on the bench; but games we have in the bag, they log major minutes. Makes no sense…bring on the Blazers!

Tell me that you’ve noticed every time Swirsky pulls out the Salami and Cheese that the other team goes on like mini-run to slash the lead in half.

I thought the Knicks would put up more of a fight then they did and we got Isiah to thank for that. He pretty much took out the two players that could’ve bothered us the most. I didn’t get how Randolph wasn’t “quick” enough for this game, he’s burned us in the past.

That’s 2 games in a row where Chuck whips out his salami and cheese when the game is still up for grabs. The thing about the NBA is that you can control the clock and your players can get hot. Chuck called it with 4:00 to go and it was an 11 point lead i think. Jamaal Crawford was playing well and we all know the raps can go ice cold, so what i’m trying to say is that Chuck should keep the salami and cheese in his pants.
good win for the raps though. Bosh didnt get his 20 boards as i called, but i’ll take 40 points over 20 boards. Parker had another good game, Moon played well and Calderon did his thing.
so is this the final straw for Thomas? get rid of this guy

i actually have noticed that, he calls it at very obvious times, where the game is in hand, and the raptors start to fall asleep on the court. makes it easy to call the game at that point.

there is only one way for the knicks to improve, and that is to get rid of isiah. i didn’t see a reason for curry and randolph to sit as much as they did.

No more Salami & cheese please. Anywhere we can petition for this? Btw, does he get a portion of proceeds from the use of his likeness?

Does anyone know if we’d lost a game AFTER Chuck calls for the S & C?

  5. Raps Fan Says:

i know we lost one game for sure, and if you give me a bit of time to marinate on it, I will tell you. it went down a couple seasons ago, so not very long back.

i think he said all the proceeds go to charity or something, but celebrating his canadian citizenship is a bit much, no?

I would rather watch a boring win by the Raptors anytime, than an exciting loss by 2 or 3 points. Do you think Boston or Detroit care who, or how they win, or only how many they win ?

Bosh was the focus of the offense because Knicks took Curry & Randolph out, because Rap’s ran circles around them, and replaced them with small players who could’nt guard on defense, but got to the basket and score.

It did not help them win but it kept them from being run out of their own building, MSG by the Raptors or their fans.
