The Celtics keep getting better

Posted on 27 August 2007 by Raps Fan

Today’s news that the Celtics added James Posey really hurt as they added him for peanuts. We could have used a defensive stopper on the wing. Lord knows Parker needs all the help he can get out there. What I would give to be a fly on Colangelo’s wall. He has watched the Atlantic get healthier, add three 20+ point scorers, two monsters, a sharpshooter, and a defensive specialist…while seemingly doing nothing. Yes he got Kapono, Delfino, Baston, Moon and that greek guy, but are they the answer to Garnett, Allen, Randolph and Posey?

I agree. The new additions are in no way comparable to what the celtics have done. A lot of that has to do with salary cap restrictions. From the very beginning Colangelo only had a certain amount of wiggle room to add talent, and considering that I’d say the new additions are satisfactory. Yes, the Atlantic has got better, and thank god because the end result will be better basketball. The Raptors are deep, the other teams not so deep. We need to start utilizing our bench, and maintain a consistent rotation, as opposed to last years horrible mismanagement of minutes by coach Mitchell. If we can do that and stay relatively healthy, I think we have a realistic chance of repeating. I personally however, will be secretly routing for the Celtics as I think they have what it takes to go all the way to the finals.

depth does go a long way in being competitive, you can’t discount that. but one has to look no further than memphis of a couple years ago. that team was like 10 guys deep. their top 7 guys could start on almost any team in the league, and they couldnt do anything.

you need 3 big time players on a team to do anything, the raptors have 2…and that is pushing it. i think alvin williams contract comes off the books at the end of this year, so another 7 mill to play with will be a welcome addition no doubt.

It’s so hard to speculate during the offseason. The knicks look great on paper when they acquired Randolph, but he was a locker room cancer in Portland. KG and Allen are amazing players and the Celtics are now immediate contenders, but they gave up so much of their youth to do so. The Nets look good, but Kidd is getting older and I don’t believe in Carter. The raps have put themselves in a position to be competitve for years to come. El Mago, Bosh, and Ford are only getting better and aquistions such as Delfino and Kapono will have to step it up and play big important minutes, but BC has faith in these guys…therefore so do I! I like the comment about making the Atlantic a competitive division again and I believe this will make the Raps better.

BC is making me very nervous by not doing anything. It’s almost like he’s looking at the Knicks and Celtics and thinking, “Naaah, those moves aren’t gonna help them, we can still take them”.

James Posey is an average NBA player who is really streaky on offense but is a decent enough defender. This is a move the Celtics had to make, they have literally no depth past the big 3 and this helps a little - not as much as you might be making it sound. Either way, +1 to Ainge.

you are right, he is an average player, but his role on the Celtics is going to be far different than on the Heat. he will get a few open looks, play some defense on the wings…and all for really good deal.

delfino is looking really good at the FIBA championships. he might do something for the raps…i hope anyways…

I dont like that BC sat back this off season on a big man. the raps have needed a big man for years and didnt solve that problem. I like the idea of defense and rebounding by the whole team, but i would have like to seen a rebouding maniac inked in the summer.

definitely agree with stinkypete. Instead of adding two more wing players, we could have went after a rebounder…not necessarily a big-man, just a guy who can grab boards….supposedly though, Kapono was brought in with the mindset that he may grab some rebounds considering his 6′8 frame.
