The Toronto Star and New York Post are reporting that a deal is imminent for Sam Mitchell. It is rumored to be a 3yr/$12mill deal. This is right in line with what I was expecting Colangelo to offer, the question is, will Sam accept?
If it is a matter of money, he might not take it, as this offer is a year, and at least $4mill short. BUT, if it is strictly about being a part of something potentially special, then my thoughts are that he will. There is no other team in the league, with Toronto’s upside, that will offer him a head coaching job.
I suspect the question of whether Sam will be the head coach will shift to how he will coach them. Being a lame duck coach, with no plays is one thing; but starting a new term with a team on the rise, is a totally different beast.
On a related note, I bet my balls that Mitchell would not be back next year, and it is looking like I will be sitting to pee for the rest of my life. I get screwed twice if he comes back….sucks.
