Raptors lose @ home to Houston 114-100

Posted on 17 March 2007 by Raps Fan

I want to start out by saying that I squealed the moment those incessant replays of Calderon and Parker rolling their ankles/foot (I had the exact same injury playing ball 3 weeks ago, and have been wearing a moon boot since - it is supposed to help the healing process). You really don’t understand how hard it is to live with an injury like that. For the last three weeks, the quality of my life has decreased. Everything takes longer to do; rolling over in bed, getting a glass of water, balancing on one foot while I try to pee at 330am. Going to work sucks too. I have the same conversation about my foot with everyone who I happen to hobble past (I appreciate the love, but read my blog, my updates are all posted).

I don’t know what it is about Houston, but I really see them as a dark horse in the west. The pickup of Shane Battier (who I still argue should have been the 2nd pick in 2001 behind Gasol) was huge. I really think that he would be a perfect piece for the Raptors, but that will never happen, unfortunately. Bonzi hasn’t worked out as good as they have thought, but he will be a welcome addition once he gets back to good health. I really think they will upset the Jazz in the first round, and it will take all 7 games to do it.

While I am predicting things, for some reason (probably the same one that made me pick the Rockets) I think the 2007 champion will be from the East - Miami or Detriot, depending on whether Wade is playing or not. They will only have 1 round of hard competition to get to the finals, where whoever comes out of the west will have at least two, possibly three tough rounds.

Man was tonight’s game against the Rockets lame. I had moments where I literally zoned out, I didn’t get frustrated at bad plays/missed free throws, my sister didn’t tell me to shut up once during the course of the whole game, at one point I literally flipped over to ‘Pro’s vs. Joes’ and watched a solid 20 minutes of it. I know Mitchell lost hair from tonights game, I honestly didn’t expect a win tonight, so I had prepared myself properly. I am definitely going to take this zen approach from now on, I can’t get so involved with every single game, my heart really can’t take it.

On the brighter side of tonights loss, they are still 6 games ahead of Jersey in the Atlantic, and look to have a comfortable lead. I can’t wait till the playoffs…”been a long time coming, but I know, a change gon’ come.”

It was a tough loss last night and i did get a little upset over the missed free throws (24-33, 73%) and some costly turnovers, but I think the reason the raps looked so bad is because Parker wasnt in the line up. That guy gives 100% on every play and steps up and plays defense on the opposing teams best players. also, Calderon was missed, even though Martin did look pretty good, Calderon’s ability to penetrate defense and distribute the ball is second only to TJ. I have no reason to believe that the Raps won’t bounce back on sunday and smack around their division rivals at the Mecca.

i was expecting the rockets to play us tough after the shellocking we gave them the last time out. the 14 pt. loss was not too bad considering that 2 vital members of the team were out.
however ,the game vs. the knicks won’t be so easy as well. i heard the knicks practiced long and hard after that loss to toronto . curry will be dangerous this sunday !

houston is an elite team. they haven’t been at full strength all season, i expected this result the last time we played them, the fact that we managed 100 pts was the highlight of the night for me. how crazy was it when mcgrady said that the Raptors were able to take him out of the game the last time at houston, lol. I did not expect that at all.

tomorrows game is going to be a battle coach, you are bang on. with how pissed off curry was, we all know where the ball is going. the question is can mitchell come up with a strategy to reduce his effectiveness? maybe throw different defensive looks at curry, some zone, i really dont know what. i am really looking forward to tomorrows game though, going to be exciting.
