Neglected, but not forgotten!

Do not take my lack of illegitimate reporting (possible musings) to mean that I have no interest in The Raptors anymore. I have a great interest in this team. The reversal of fortunes this team has gone through has been amazing. Since February, we have:

  • Replaced Babcock with Colangelo
    • Grade: A+
    • Notes:
  • Traded Jalen Rose
    • Grade: A+
    • Notes: Antonio Davis is an unrestricted free agent, which means $10+ mill in cap space.
  • Mike James has all but talked himself out of a contract in Toronto
    • Grade: A+
    • Notes: I have said all season that the guy is a good player. He put up monster number, but was afforded monster minutes and latitude to achieve it. I could feel his agent crigne everytime he opened his mouth for an interview. In my estimation, I think he talked himself out of about $1mill/year.
  • Landed the 1st overall pick
    • Grade: A+
    • Notes: This is just good damn luck. We went from the 5th spot, to the 1st. No one can take credit for that.
  • Traded Rafael Araujo
    • Grade: A+
    • Notes: We traded a useless player for two useless players, the genius of this trade is the change of the guard that it is representing. Whaley will be waived, and Humphries will be at the end of the bench. We just wont have to deal with Araujo anymore, which is a plus.

An interesting rumour that has surfaced today is the Jermaine O’Neal rumour. Jermaine O’Neal to the Raptors for the 1st pick (which would probably translate into Adam Morrison), and what I can only assume would be Charlie Villenueva or combination of Joey Graham and Morris Peterson. I am absolutely torn with this possibility. Jermaine O’Neal makes about $15mill/year, and has like 4 years left on his contract, and is 28. So he wont be old and useless towards his end of his contract. My only problem is that getting him will limit our ability to fill holes at other positions (point gaurd, shooting gaurd and small forward). However, getting him would give us one of the most versatile front courts in the league. Makes for good cooler talk, that’s for sure.
